Our Puppy's defective

But returning her ain't an option.

She adopted her "pathetically cute" look instantly.

I've learned a lot about the foreleg for dogs in the past couple of weeks. Joon had a Ulnar Osteotomy to correct the crooked growth in her forearms. The growth plate on the Ulna had closed, and the Radius was growing more and more curved. If we did nothing, it would have led to elbow dysplasia, lameness, etc. By cutting the Ulna, the Radius has a chance to grow straight and hopefully the elbow joint will align as it should.

Nothing but bed rest for two weeks, and slow going after that.

Joon's forelegs were extremely bowl-legged, she was limping, and her front feet were turning outward to almost perpendicular from proper alignment. Having the procedure done now will give her developing elbow joint the chance to form and the bones to fuse as they normally would.

Amber's done the bulk of the work caring for Joon, keeping her comfortable, and administering meds. I'll have to get a photo of the "reverse wheelbarrow" pee procedure. Amber puts a towel under Joon's armpits around her chest and walks her in a reverse wheelbarrow position to pee. It's tedius work, but a pet isn't a disposable item no matter what the condition.

My baby is going to undergo the same surgery on July 10th. I wish I could get your email address so I could write you directly for a shoulder to cry on and use your expertise.

God Bless You All
